Can Tho Airport, known as Tra Noc Airport, was constructed in the 1960s. Before 1975, the airport was used as a military airbase by the previous regime. After liberation, Can Tho Airport was handed over to the Ministry of National Defense for management.

Since 2005, Can Tho Airport has been included in a renovation and upgrade project to transform it into Can Tho International Airport.
