1. Where is the Can Tho Museum located?

The Can Tho Museum is located at 1 Hoa Binh Boulevard, Tan An Ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City, approximately 1km from Ninh Kieu Wharf. Established in 1976 as the Vietnam-US Cultural Center, it underwent several name changes until officially becoming the Can Tho Museum in 1992.

Spanning an area of 3000 square meters, the museum displays and introduces over 1,000 artifacts, documents, and rare relics, providing a comprehensive view of the life in Can Tho over the years. At this museum, visitors can easily grasp the economic, cultural, and social achievements of the Kinh, Khmer, Chinese ethnic groups, and many other provinces and cities.

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: Morning from 8 AM to 11 AM, afternoon from 2 PM to 5 PM.
  • Saturday, Sunday, holidays, and Tet: from 8 AM to 11 AM.

3. How to get to the Museum

To get to the Can Tho Museum, you need to start from Ninh Kieu Wharf and follow Hai Ba Trung Street to the intersection, then turn left onto Ngo Quyen Street. After that, continue straight to the next intersection and turn right onto Ly Thuong Kiet Street. Finally, when you reach Tran Quoc Toan Street, turn left and go straight to arrive at the museum. The Oc Eo Cultural Foundation exhibition area: The Oc Eo culture is an ancient civilization that existed from the 1st century AD to the 7th century AD. This exhibition area is considered crucial within the Can Tho Museum, featuring numerous rare artifacts of significant scientific value. These artifacts serve as historical evidence of a longstanding culture in the Southern region. With its valuable exhibits and historical documents, the museum helps visitors gain a deeper understanding of this unique cultural heritage.

 

The exhibition area of the three ethnic groups: This area mainly reconstructs artifacts related to the culture, beliefs, and daily life of the Kinh, Hoa, and Khmer peoples. Here, you can see ancient agricultural tools, ancient coins, and a model of Binh Thuy communal house dedicated to Thành Hoàng worship.

Floor 2: Exhibits artifacts related to the war time

Located on the second floor of the Can Tho Museum, this exhibition area showcases artifacts such as guns, bayonets, photographs, and clothing from the resistance wars against the French and Americans by the people of Can Tho and Hau Giang. Here, you can witness firsthand the photos, guns, bayonets, and wartime clothing of the people of Can Tho. Additionally, you can hear the heroic and intense stories of the Southern people during these challenging resistance wars.
