Nam Nha Pagoda over 100 years
Nam Nha pagoda was built in 1895 by Nguyen Giac Nguyen. Previously, it was a traditional medicine shop called Nam Nha Duong, which was later rebuilt and renamed as Nam Nha Pagoda. In addition to worshiping, it also served as the headquarters of the Dong Du movement initiated by Phan Boi Chau.
During the resistance war against the French, Nam Nha Pagoda in Can Tho was a gathering place and nurtured patriotic movements, while also producing intellectuals who were devoted to the indomitable spirit of fighting against foreign invaders. In those difficult years of the revolution, the Hau Giang Special Commission and the Nam Ky Provincial Party Committee chose this place as a liaison point with revolutionary organizations throughout the region.

Nam Nha Pagoda in Can Tho has a fairly spacious campus, with a large surrounding garden. The pagoda gate is covered with tiled roofs, with two columns on each side welcoming the practitioners. In the middle of the pagoda yard, there is a miniature mountain and many precious trees that are meticulously trimmed.
The main hall consists of 5 compartments, embodying the harmonious blend of Chinese, French, and Vietnamese styles. The temple’s patterns are intricately carved and beautifully decorated. The dominant color is yellow, symbolizing good luck. The roof is covered with red tiles, and on top is a pair of dragons fighting over a pearl. Behind the main hall is a long corridor with two compartments for receiving guests.
