Bat Pagoda is also known as Ma Toc Pagoda or Mahatup Pagoda. This is one of the famous spiritual destinations in Soc Trang that attracts many people to explore.   • Bat Pagoda address: located on Van Ngoc Chinh street, Ward 3, Soc Trang city.
Traveling to  Soc Trang is not too difficult. If you start from Can Tho, it only takes you about 1 hour by motorbike or about 45 minutes by car. The total distance from Can Tho to Soc Trang is about 60km. The easy way for self-guided tours to Soc Trang is to follow National Highway 1A to Hau Giang province. When you reach Nga Bay town, you will enter Soc Trang province.

From the center of Soc Trang City towards Bat Pagoda, you just need to go south about 800m on Hai Ba Trung Street to reach the intersection with Tran Hung Dao Street. Or you can also go in the direction of 30/4 Street. Continue moving on Tran Hung Dao Street about 800m until you reach the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit to Le Hong Phong Street and continue for about 850m. Turn right onto Van Ngoc Chinh Street and go about 1.0km more to reach Bat Pagoda.

When should I visit Bat Pagoda?

The weather in Soc Trang is very pleasant, so visitors can come here at any time of the year. The climate of Soc Trang can be divided into two seasons: dry season and rainy season. The rainy season usually starts from May to October. While the dry season lasts from November to April of the following year. The average annual temperature in Soc Trang fluctuates around 26 degrees Celsius and there are rarely storms or floods.

The best time to travel to Soc Trang is around the 10th lunar month every year. At this time, you not only have the opportunity to visit famous tourist attractions with a pleasant atmosphere. But you can also participate in the Ooc-Om-Bok festival. This is the biggest festival of the Khmer community. History of the formation of Bat Pagoda Soc Trang

According to the remaining ancient documents, the construction of Bat Pagoda began in 1569. That is, more than 440 years ago. Initially, the main hall of the pagoda was built only with bamboo and leaves. It was later upgraded with bricks and tiled roofs. In 1960, the pagoda underwent a major renovation in the main hall area. Since then, the pagoda has undergone many renovations and renovations until it has the beauty and solemnity it has today.

In 2008, the pagoda encountered an unfortunate incident when the main hall area caught fire. However, good news came in April 2009. The main hall area was restored to its original state. In 2013, the Bat Pagoda tourist area in Soc Trang province officially came into operation. Although financial resources are not abundant, this tourist area has been equipped with a spacious parking lot and other facilities such as restaurants, electric cars, etc. to serve tourists.

Since 1999, Bat Pagoda has been recognized as a national historical and cultural relic. To this day, the Soc Trang provincial government is considering policies to preserve and develop this place.
